Sometimes the truth is more difficult to bear than the convenience of the lie. This is a concept I’m quite familiar with. 🤪
.
When it comes to our health we can easily slip into this way of thinking. We know what we should do based on the truth of our circumstances but we have a tendency to cushion the facts when we aren’t willing to give up convenience.
.
Here are a few common lies we tell ourselves because of convenience.
.
My BLOOD PRESSURE isn’t REALLY that HIGH.
Experts report that one of the biggest lies they hear in practice is “my blood pressure is high because I ran here or I just drank coffee”. High blood pressure is a sign it’s time to make some lifestyle changes. We should listen to that.

I NEED to do a CLEANSE.
Why? Our bodies are meant to detox themselves. “Our digestive tract, liver, kidneys and skin are responsible for breaking down toxins for elimination through urine, stool or sweat,” says the Cleveland Clinic. Cleansing is a popular method of starting a new diet for rapid results, but it doesn’t come without consequence. Often cleanses involve low calorie eating. The down fall to that is as soon as we start eating a healthy amount of calories that we need to function we gain weight back and that can be discouraging and cause us to give up creating a cyclical yo yo affect.

I DON’T have TIME to EXERCISE.
I’ve heard this one alot. The truth is we have time for what we make time for. My schedule allows for flexibility when it comes to workouts now, but it wasn’t always that way. When my kids were small I used to wake to run at 4:45 am every morning to be sure I could get it in. I made it a priority because it was so important to me to make sure I took care of my health.

YOU’RE SUPPOSED to GAIN WEIGHT when you AGE.
According to a study published in JAMA, researchers found that people who gained even a moderate amount of weight—from about 5 pounds to 22—since high school were much more likely to experience chronic health problems like diabetes and high blood pressure.
We don’t have to maintain our figure from high school to be healthy of course, but we shouldn’t accept that excessive weight gain is par for the course of aging. It doesn’t have to be if we incorporate strength training, cardio vascular activity and a healthy calorie consumption rate.

I can EXERCISE my way to a HEALTH and WEIGHT LOSS.
Not true. In fact I think this lie could be responsible for a lot of heartache. Health comes from consistent action over time in multiple areas of our life. It comes from our food, exercise, mindset and a commitment to living healthy. That means we can’t eat whatever we like, partake in toxic relationships, indulge in unhealthy habits and expect that exercise alone will keep us healthy. Healthy comes from synergy in multiple areas of life.

PEOPLE need to AGREE with MY POINT of VIEW.
No, they don’t actually. It would be nice, but know when to cut your losses and why. Many people are not ready to give up convenience for truth. Stress levels and feelings of frustration and isolation can become all consuming and take a toll on health when we focus on people agreeing with us to feel included. Share information build awareness, take pride in your courage to do so and let it go.

If we feel like we are ignoring truth because we enjoy the convenience of the lie then maybe it’s time to look within and investigate why we feel the need to rely on that convenience. Why are we willing to give up the results we really want and really need just so we aren’t inconvenienced? Step out of convenience commit and watch your growth explode. ❤️👏
