A soy latte from Starbucks contains 170 calories.
There are 94 calories in 1 tbsp of peanut butter and it contains 2 grams of protein.
Lots of foods that carry the connotation of being health foods carry hefty calories without a lot of volume.
Hear me now, that is not to say that we should never eat foods that are high calorie, low volume or have a low nutritional benefit. It just means we should KNOW what we are eating. Not eating them at all can leave us feeling unsatisfied and then lead to binge behaviors.
Having the knowledge empowers us to make informed choices. Maybe you’d rather eat something else instead of consuming 600 calories on what you thought was a handful of nuts.
Nuts are a healthy source of fats but quickly become a burden to our calorie intake when they can be so easily over eaten. Not too many people can feel satiated after 13 almonds.
Peanut butter has been a very over inflated health food especially when it comes to being a protein source. First of all where your peanut butter comes from matters. Some big name brands contain more oils, sugar and filler than they do any sort of protein. When choosing a peanut butter there should only be one ingredient/maybe two. Peanuts and salt.
Soy has been touted as a super food since the 80’s. It became the US’s #1 cash crop in 1973. In reality not all soy is created equally and that’s an understatement! 😝Eat soy in moderation and select non-GMO, minimally processed and fermented varieties to minimize adverse effects on health and maximize the potential benefits.
Instead of making these kinds of foods the centerpiece of your meal or snack make them the cherry on top.
Throw 13 almonds😂 into your salad.
Put a tblsp of peanut butter in your steel cut oats.
If you love your soy latte make sure it’s non gmo sourced so your getting the benefit of it and count it as part of your snacks.
Once we become aware most of us fall into a natural rhythm of finding creative ways to make choices that are satisfying and bring us the results we want leaving ignorant bliss behind.
