Building new habits requires practice and repetition. The good news is that one simple change often causes another change and it creates a snowball affect.

So here are 7 simple tips to stay on track toward your optimum health goal this time of year.

1. Have a Plan for Your Week. This includes food, workouts and social time. If you know what, when and where ahead of time you are way more likely to stay on track.

2. Get Your Workout In First. Working out first before you do anything else sets you up for a day of making good decisions. You won’t want to waste that workout by eating something you shouldn’t.

3. Bring A Healthy Dish to the Party. This will ensure that there is an option for you.

4. Limit Alcohol Intake. It’s so easy to take on extra calories when drinking. Not only do many beverages contain high amounts of sugar, they mess with your appetite as well. Alcohol must be processed first slowing down your ability to burn food calories

5. Build events into your holiday traditions that support your optimum health.
Run the Turkey Trot for Thanksgiving, a New Years Day Run, Fourth of July run or plan a destination activity. These kinds of events are built into our lifestyle and they are part of our family traditions.

6. Don’t Cheat on Sleep. According to sleep expert Dr. Pyatkavich “Sleep deprivation can show up pretty quickly as appetite changes. Your levels of grehlin, a hormone responsible for letting your brain know your hungry, goes up when you have insufficient sleep”. So get your hours in!

7. Join a challenge or an accountability group. Being a part of a community with similar goals can be crucial to your success.
