Although I am not a big fan of meal plans I am a big fan of food prepping.
.
The reality of meal plans is they don’t work out very well for most.
.
Here’s why,
.
A meal plan doesn’t teach us how to make our own decisions on the fly (also known as real life).
.
It takes our individual choice to eat what we want away.
.
Someone else is managing your food. That’s weird.
.
Isolates you from everyone around you who is not eating on the meal plan. Wanna go get lunch? No I’m eating from my meal plan.
.
Feels like a diet. Diets are short term and should only be used for specific outcomes like an athletic goal. Can you really live like that forever?
.
Getting off the meal plan due to an unplanned event can trigger feelings of quitting. That can lead to a binge/ deprive cycle.
.
Again getting better results for health is NOT about a regiment or a diet plan it’s about a lifestyle. We don’t quit the lifestyle we love.
.
You can love a lifestyle that brings you the health results you’re looking for. That happens when you understand why and how to build one.
.
Building the skill set to make decisions that are adaptable happens through repetition and being willing to discover what you like.
.
Instead of a meal plan, do meal prep.
Here are a few tips:
.
Cook off some basics once a week and keep them in the fridge.
.
Chicken
Beef
Overnight oats
Cut up fruit
Cut up veggies
Boil eggs
Make a batch of hummus
Make a batch of yogurt dip
Make a batch of bone broth freeze and thaw one package a week.
.
Look at menus to three restaurants near you and learn what you can order to fit how you intend to eat.
Prioritize protein
Eat for nutritional content
Be mindful of portion size
Include fats
Include carbs
Order foods in their whole form (less chance of processing)
.
Nutrition can make or break your health goals. The key is to find your way of eating that contributes to a lifestyle you love. That most likely doesn’t come from a meal plan.
